New construction, Zelgli multi-family building
Facts & Figures
Year of construction: 2019/2020
Building owner: Landolt & Co. AG Totalunternehmung RDN
Region: Winterthur
This unique timber-framed house is nestled in the picturesque community of Dorf, situated between Winterthur and Schaffhausen. At first glance, it exudes the charm of a centuries-old property having recently been meticulously renovated as a listed building. It is only upon closer inspection that the remarkable truth emerges – this is a new construction. Yet, it presented an exceptional challenge for the site management, given its location in a zone safeguarded by regulations to protect the image of the village. Schenker Storen was commissioned by the building owner, Landolt & Co Totalunternehmung RDN, with providing the shading solutions. Being able to supply "old style” shutters played a pivotal role in securing the contract – a demand Schenker Storen was able to seamlessly fulfil through its affiliated partner within the Group. The challenges inherent in this project primarily revolved around precision – with regard to both the installation and timing.
Installation: A bespoke endeavour for the timber-framed house
In a timber-framed building with wooden beams, achieving precise millimetre alignment in the final result proved to be a demanding task, one necessitating meticulous preliminary planning. Collaboration with on-site carpenters was imperative to clarify the details. To guarantee a perfect fit for the shutters, each window was individually measured. This was the only way to ensure that the fixing points for the shutters were at exactly the right height throughout.
Timing: First the facade, then production
Because the exact dimensions and placement of the windows only became evident once the facade was completed, the bespoke shutters could not be ordered until later. This made scheduling and the implementation process a little more complex. Ensuring that the production capacity for the shutters was available precisely when needed became a critical factor. This involved coordinating their production, powder-coating, delivery and installation as swiftly as possible in order to meet the deadlines. In total, 45 aluminium shutters, featuring a two-tone design with a solid surface instead of slats, were commissioned for the project.
