A fixed construction with a flexible roof

The owners have added an inviting lounge area on the sun-exposed south-west side of their modern single-family home. It looks directly over the water of the adjoining swimming pool. Because they enjoy spending time in the seating area, the family decided to install a sturdy, permanent roof solution that they could open and close depending on the weather, or even leave open for longer periods.

Based on their Internet research and a recommendation from a friend, the owners contacted an advisor at Schenker Storen. Together they looked for a suitable solution to match their modular home. In next to no time, the owners had their hearts set on the folding pergola FP 7 because it satisfied their need for a flexible roof, plus, it could be adapted to match the architecture of their residential building in terms of dimensions, design and colour.

A seamless extension

The additional outdoor living area created by the pergola looks like it has always been part of the house: The aluminium supports were made in the same RAL colour as the metal window frames, and the light, distinctive sandy shade of the sun roof is based on that of the facade. The homeowners chose the durable and UV-resistant option from Schenker Storen’s diverse collection of fabrics. They describe this sheltered, effortless transition between the indoor and outdoor living area, as an added value they never want to be without.

«We have gained an outdoor lounge. The pergola provides us with protection from prying eyes and the hot sun. But we also really enjoy being out here when there is just a light rain; to listen to the pattering and relax.»

Comfort and the freedom to be creative

The sun, wind and rain-resistant folding pergola FP 7 has an electric motor, which makes it really easy to extend and retract. The built-in wind-stable vertical fabric blind can also provide just partial shading – depending on what the owners want and the weather. The slightly curved retractable roof is more than just a striking decorative addition. Its slight arch ensures the rainwater rolls off and that the dirt does not build up on the fabric by directing everything down the side drainage channels in the aluminium profiles. Another special highlight the owners absolutely love, especially when they spend time together in the lounge in the evenings, are the subtle accents created by the dimmable lighting. LED strips are discreetly integrated on the insides of the FP 7’s four frames and covered with a diffuser panel.
