Photovoltaic sliding shutter SolarSlide

The energy-generating sliding shutter

PV sliding shutters combine modern sun protection with the efficient generation of electricity elegantly, discreetly and very effectively.

SolarSlide brings an innovative system to market that unites design, comfort and photovoltaic technology in one perfect solution. The coloured glass-glass modules generate electricity while integrating seamlessly into any façade.

This transforms a sliding shutter into more than just a design feature: it becomes an active source of energy. Whether for a new construction or renovation project, SolarSlide sets new standards for sustainable architecture.

PV Sliding shutters – generating energy, shaping shade

The energy-generating SolarSlide photovoltaic sliding shutters were developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and offer maximum architectural freedom. Eight standard colours as well as bespoke shades make it possible to coordinate them beautifully with any façade concept. The choice of satin-finish, gloss or textured glass surfaces opens up further design options: opaque or semi-transparent, depending on the amount of light to be let in.
The elegant glass-glass modules feature no visible solar cell structure, ensuring the façade’s aesthetics remain the visual focus. At the same time, the modules provide reliable sun protection and generate valuable solar electricity.

Photovoltaic sliding shutters unlock valuable potential by actively using previously unused façade surfaces for energy generation, enabling buildings to contribute to the energy system. At the same time, they enhance visual appearance and protect interior spaces from overheating, all without visible technology. As a vertical photovoltaic solution, they integrate seamlessly into the overall concept and ideally complement conventional rooftop installations, thereby maximizing a building’s energy production all around.

The electricity generated can be used directly on-site, stored in a battery system or exported to the grid. This makes SolarSlide ideal for reducing energy costs and upgrading buildings to plus-energy standard. Thanks to high-quality materials such as toughened safety glass (ESG) and powder-coated aluminium, SolarSlide sliding shutters are durable, weather-resistant and virtually maintenance-free.

Whether SolarSlide or SolarSlide Pro, both systems integrate easily, can be operated manually or by a motor, and deliver tailored solutions for projects of any size.

SolarSlide

SolarSlide

SolarSlide offers increased energy yield and is fully integrated into the building’s system. The system is designed for connecting to on-site inverters and battery storage, making it particularly suitable for large façade areas, new buildings and projects with ambitious energy targets. Its integration into the overall PV installation, means the electricity generated is efficiently managed, stored or redistributed. SolarSlide is the ideal solution for building owners, architects and investors who require a professional, fully integrated PV sliding shutter system that maximises energy output and supports sustainable building certifications.

SolarSlide Pro

SolarSlide Pro

SolarSlide Pro is a plug-and-play system with an integrated micro-inverter installed within each sliding panel. This allows the generated electricity to be fed directly into the household electrical system or the public grid – delivering up to 600 W with no additional installation work. SolarSlide Pro runs as a self-contained mini photovoltaic installation. It can be easily extended and is ideal for users who want to generate solar energy with minimal installation work.

Unique design options for greater individuality

SolarSlide fulfils more than a purely functional role. In addition to providing sun, glare and privacy protection, the fact it generates its own electricity means it makes a significant contribution to the building’s overall energy efficiency. It also serves as a high-quality decorative architectural element for a wide range of building styles and can be manufactured in colours to suit individual design requirements.

Options

1. Mountings for upper and lower guides

The rails can be wall-mounted using a support profile. They are manufactured from aluminium profiles, while the rollers are made from durable plastic. This combination of materials ensures a low noise operation of the shutters. A continuous lower guide rail can also be specified.

2. Latches and locks

Once pulled shut, the sliding shutter can be locked in a variety of ways. Not only does it provide privacy and shading, it also deters burglars.

3. Types of drive

The PV sliding shutter is operated manually or by a motor. It is compatible with standard controller systems.

4. Colours

Choose from the standard colours of black, anthracite, grey, light grey, blue, green, terracotta and gold. Custom shades are also available on request. The powder coating of the aluminium frames can be colour-matched accordingly.

SolarSlide in use

How well does a photovoltaic sliding shutter perform in real-world use? The project report from Schlatt (Widnau) provides a clear and comprehensive answer. This is where SolarSlide modules were used on a large scale for the first time, in a sustainable apartment building – serving both as aesthetic sun protection and as an important additional source of energy.
