The region around Aix-en-Provence in southern France is known for its warm, dry summers and cool winters. The local climate is also marked by the strong mistral wind, which can sweep through at any time of year. With this in mind, the client placed great importance on finding a solution that would meet the region’s specific climatic conditions – one that offers the ideal balance of sun protection, wind and weather resistance, ventilation and privacy.
Sliding shutters with wooden slats as the solution
They opted for NATURE SL12 sliding shutters with horizontal larch slats – three panels on the top floor and four on the ground floor. The optimally spaced slats allow excellent airflow even when closed, while creating a pleasant light interior spaces and providing the desired level of privacy from outside.
Timeless in appearance, enduring in performance
The sliding shutters further enhance the home’s contemporary look. Together with the visibly mounted guide rails, they blend harmoniously into the façade and stand out as a distinctive architectural feature. The larch used for the slats is impressive not only in appearance but also in its performance. It is extremely durable, maintains its shape and withstands the elements over time. The solid construction of the entire system does away with the need for additional safety devices such as wind detectors. It provides excellent stability even in strong winds and no rattling at all.
Easy to operate
Compared with window shutters, sliding shutters have the advantage of being easy to operate without having to lean out. While the top floor is operated manually, the shutters on the ground floor are powered by solar motors. The guide rails are visibly mounted on the façade, allowing a clean, uncomplicated installation with no thermal bridges On the ground floor, the lower guide rails are discreetly set into the floor.
