The History of Schenker Storen
Sustainable success for 135 years
Schenker Storen, the number 1 in the Swiss sun and weather protection market, has a long and diverse history. The traditional company is distinguised by its high level of services, comprehensive and innovative product range and high-quality installation services.
Founded in 1881
It all began in a modest barn in Solothurn Schönenwerd: Starting from 1881, Emil Schenker produced blinds that were completely ahead of their time. Word soon got around about the quality of his products and so the company was able to grow steadily.
First application for a patent
The company distinguished itself through innovations right from the start. The first patent for the construction of a blind was already registered in 1895.
Emil Schenker & Co. AG
Emil Schenker was renamed Emil Schenker & Co. AG in 1938, and in 1984 evolved into today's Schenker Storen AG. The company has remained as innovative as its founder throughout its existence. The first branches of Schenker Storen were opened in Zurich and in Western Switzerland.
After the Second World War the company increasingly focused on the production of slat blinds.
On its 75th anniversary in 1956, Schenker Storen was able look back on 18 years of continuous revenue growth. The workforce now totalled 216 employees.
Schenker Storen is known for its relentless product launches, such as the classic All-metal Blind GM 100 launched in 1974 with their later developments resulting in today's GM 200, then in 1976, the Compact Venetian Blind VR 90, and in 2002, the Metal Compact Blind MV 90.
Schenker Storen has continued to grow and now offers a wide range of blinds. In addition to its slat blinds, the company’s range also includes awnings, extendable blinds, vertical blinds, sunshades and central controls. The service business is also an important part of the company, providing a great deal of support; its network of branches has grown to 16 locations throughout Switzerland. The company now employs 570 people.
Modern times through today
As the industry-leading company, Schenker Storen was ISO 9001 certified in 1994. The company’s focus on quality impressively manifested itself once more when it was the first in the industry to attain ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates.
Schenker Storen has manufactured its fabric products in its own factory in Thanvillé, France since 1988.
In 2011, Schenker Storen became the market leader for aluminium folding and sliding blinds, superseding EHRET GmbH from Mahlberg in Germany. This strengthened Schenker Storen position in the market as the no. 1 Swiss manufacturer of sun and weather protection.
In 2018, Schenker Storen AG took over the Company Schenker BK Storen GmbH in Ravensburg. The BK-Storen has been one of the leading suppliers of external sun protection in Southern Germany.
